About the speaking tests

TOEFL speaking is four tasks long — independent, campus situation, academic lecture, and a final integrated task. The practice sets on this site work each one, but they're organized by difficulty rather than by task number so you can build up the way real students actually build up. Easy sets cover the most common prompt patterns at a slower delivery speed, so you can learn the structure before you fight the clock. Medium moves to test pace and the prompt phrasings that trip people up. Hard is the version closest to a real test day — full speed, denser academic vocabulary, the lecture topics that don't give you any familiar handholds.

Every set on this site comes with a native-speaker model response — not just a written transcript, but actual audio at the cadence and intonation graders associate with a higher score. I record these the same way I record them for my own students, so what you hear is what a top response actually sounds like out loud, including the small things (pauses, transition phrases, where to slow down for emphasis) that don't show up in transcripts.

You also get the scoring notes I use when I grade — what each task is being measured on, and where most students lose points. No sign-up, no paywall.
