SituationHealth and Sleep

An interviewer asks you four questions about health and sleep. They start with you and get a little wider each time. Use the beginner formula for every answer: Answer, Reason, Example, Wrap-up.

Question 1Your Sleep

How many hours do you usually sleep? Is it enough?

Start withI usually sleep about…

Show Answer

I usually sleep about six hours a night. I go to bed at one and wake up at seven. Honestly, I think it is not enough. In the afternoon, I often feel sleepy, and it is hard to focus. I know I need seven or eight hours. So, I am trying to go to bed earlier. I also try not to drink coffee after three o'clock.

Why it works: Give the number first, then a clear answer to the second question (not enough). The sleepy afternoons are the example, and the ending gives two small plans (bed earlier, no late coffee).

Question 2A Healthy Change

Tell me about something you changed to be healthier.

Start withLast year, I started…

Show Answer

Last year, I started jogging to be healthier. Before that, I sat at my desk all day, and I often felt tired. So I decided to run in the park near my house three times a week. At first, I could only run for ten minutes. Now I can run for thirty minutes without stopping. I also sleep better and have more energy. It was a small change, but it made a big difference.

Why it works: Say what you changed and when. Then before and after: how you felt before, what you did, and how it is now (ten minutes, then thirty). The last sentence sums it up with an easy pattern: a small change, a big difference.

Question 3Gym or Outdoors

Do you prefer exercising at a gym or outdoors? Why?

Start withI prefer exercising…

Show Answer

I prefer exercising outdoors. First, it is free. I don't have to pay for a gym every month. Second, fresh air makes me feel good. When I run in the park, I can see trees and the river, so I don't get bored. For example, last spring I ran next to the cherry blossoms every evening, and it was so relaxing. Of course, a gym is better on rainy days. But most of the time, I choose outdoors.

Why it works: Pick one side, then two reasons with First and Second. The cherry blossom run is a real example. One line for the other side (rainy days) before the wrap-up keeps the answer fair.

Question 4Your Opinion

Do you think people today get enough sleep? Why or why not?

Start withNo, I don't think…

Show Answer

No, I don't think people today get enough sleep. Many people work or study until late at night. Also, they look at their phones in bed, so they fall asleep late. For example, my friends often send me messages at one or two in the morning. Without enough sleep, people feel tired and can't focus. I think everyone should put their phone away one hour before bed. It is an easy way to sleep more.

Why it works: A clear no first. Two reasons (late work, phones in bed) and one example you have seen. The ending gives one simple tip, which is an easy way to close an opinion.
