Subject: Your account is moving to a new sort code
From: Marlingford Bank
To: Ms. R. Sørensen
Your branch is merging with Eastgate on 12 September, and your account number stays the same while the sort code changes.
You do not need to do anything for money coming in. Payments sent to the old sort code are redirected for eighteen months, and the sender is told the new details automatically the first time they pay.
Payments going out are different. Standing orders and direct debits move with the account and need no action. What does not move is any payment you set up in someone else's banking app, for example rent you pay from a joint account held elsewhere, because that instruction lives with them and not with us.
Your cards keep working throughout, including on 12 September itself. The mobile app will be unavailable from 22:00 on the 11th until roughly 06:00 on the 12th, and balances shown immediately afterwards may be a few hours out of date until the overnight batch completes.
Cheque books printed with the old sort code remain valid until the end of the year. New books are sent automatically only to customers who used a cheque in the last twelve months.
We will never ask you to move money to a safe account. If anyone calls during the merger and says otherwise, that call is not from us.

Flat viewing - Harrow Street
Agent (11:02): Viewing confirmed for Thursday 6pm. The landlord asks for proof of income before offers, not after, so bring three payslips if you want to offer on the day.
Priya (11:20): I started this job seven weeks ago, so I have two payslips and a contract. Is that a problem?
Agent (11:26): Usually a contract plus two payslips is accepted, but the landlord can ask for a guarantor instead. That decision is his, not mine, and he makes it when he sees the file.
Priya (11:31): If a guarantor is needed, does that person have to be local?
Agent (11:40): In the same country, yes. Referencing cannot verify overseas income for this landlord's insurer.
Priya (11:44): Understood. One more: the listing says available from 1 October but also says six weeks' notice on the current tenant. Those do not match.
Agent (11:52): You are right, and thank you. The tenant gave notice on 3 September, so the true date is mid-October. I will correct the listing today.
Priya (11:55): Then I will view but hold the offer until the date is fixed in writing.

Adoption day - Highfield Animal Shelter
Saturday 18 May, 10:00 to 15:00. Free entry.
Meet forty cats and dogs looking for homes. You can meet an animal on the day, but nobody leaves with one on the day; every adoption includes a home visit first.
Bring identification and proof of address. Without both we can register your interest but cannot start an application, and applications are worked through in the order they are started.
If you already have a dog, bring it. Dogs meeting dogs at the shelter tells us more in ten minutes than any form does, and a pair that does not settle is better discovered now. Cats should stay at home; a car journey and a strange building tell us nothing except that cats dislike both.
Our fees are $120 for a dog and $70 for a cat, which covers vaccination, microchipping, and neutering. We know rehoming elsewhere can be free. The fee exists because animals leaving us are already treated, and a household that plans for the fee is a household that has planned for the vet bills.
We do not rehome dogs under two years old to households where everyone is out for more than six hours a day. This is the condition people argue with most, so it is stated here rather than at the door.
Volunteers are also needed: dog walking on weekday mornings, and drivers for the home visits.

Memo: Forklift zones and the new pedestrian route
To: All warehouse staff, Bay 2
From: Site Safety
Date: 6 February
From Monday the walkway through Bay 2 moves to the south wall. The old route crossed two forklift aisles; the new one crosses none.
The new route is longer by about ninety seconds. We expect people to cut across anyway when they are in a hurry, so let us be direct about why we are not relying on good intentions: the barrier at the old entrance is being physically removed and that doorway sealed.
High-visibility vests remain mandatory anywhere on the warehouse floor, including the new walkway, even though it no longer crosses an aisle. This surprises people. The reason is that reversing forklifts overrun the aisle markings by up to a metre when loaded.
Drivers: the sight line at the south wall is worse than at the old crossing because of the racking. Sound your horn at the two marked points whether or not you can see someone.
Agency staff receive the same briefing as permanent staff, but they are briefed by their agency and we cannot see whether it happened. Until we can, ask any agency colleague on their first day whether they have had it, and tell a supervisor if they have not.
Report near misses even where nobody was hurt. Last quarter we had eleven reports and no injuries; the quarter before that we had two reports and three injuries.
