I agree that zoos help protect endangered animals. Many zoos run breeding programs that have brought species back from the edge of extinction.
Zoos also teach millions of visitors about animals and the threats they face in the wild. This kind of education can lead people to support conservation efforts they would never have learned about otherwise.
Of course, zoos should treat their animals well and give them enough space. But a well run zoo does far more good for endangered species than harm.

I understand why some people see zoos mainly as entertainment, since that is often what draws visitors in the first place. But the ticket money zoos earn from entertainment is what pays for their conservation programs.
Many zoos also use that entertainment value to teach visitors about endangered animals in a way that a book or a video cannot. Seeing a real animal often makes people care more about protecting it.
Entertainment and conservation are not opposites here. Entertainment is often what funds and supports the conservation work behind the scenes.
